When teenage daughters meet their mothers: A love letter to letting them grow up

It's a very special kind of love when the little girls who once walked hand in hand with me suddenly stand almost as tall next to me. When they start making their own decisions, supporting each other, sometimes really challenging me, and I realize: I'm no longer their whole world, but I'm still an important part of it.

And that's exactly what life with two teenage daughters feels like. Two strong personalities, two opinions, two hearts, and a whole new sense of family.

Sometimes loud, sometimes quiet. Often chaotic, always in motion. For her and for me too. Because yes, I'm growing too. As a mother. As a woman. As a person.

I used to be my daughters' heroine. I was the one who knew everything. I was the one who took care of everything. I was the one who caught everything.

Sometimes these days I'm just the one who's annoying. But at the same time, I'm exactly the one they come to in the middle of the night when something's bothering them. When they have questions they wouldn't ask anyone else.

But today I am also the one they distance themselves from. And then I am again the person they always find their way back to, sometimes quietly, sometimes loudly, but always genuinely and in their own way.

It is a dance between closeness and distance, between discussions, tears, laughter and those small, precious moments where everything is easy.

I learn every day that they are no longer my little shadows. They are their own strong young women with dreams, opinions, and perspectives that don't always match mine, and that's perfectly fine.

Because how wonderful is it to watch them grow? To see my two little girls become two wonderful young women. To see us navigate school stress, mood swings, first questions about love, first dramas, and then a cozy evening of binge-watching with snacks and blankets, where, of course, each of them has a different opinion.

Sometimes I really wonder when that happened, this growing up. And then I realize it wasn't a specific moment. It was just like that, with a bit of chaos, with a lot of feeling, and with a love that changes but never diminishes.

This time is wild, it challenges me. But it also fulfills me in a way I never would have thought possible.

I am no longer just "the mom with two little daughters". We are three women,

bound together by our history, by our trust, and by a love that needs no role. It only needs a heart that remains open.

And when I look at them and see how clear, how brave, how tall they are becoming, I know,

I am not just her mom. I am her companion, her listener, her safe haven.

And quite honestly? This is the greatest gift life could have given me.
